Dave Rigotti: WordPress word of mouth marketing plugin

  • Theme Prices · 1 year ago
    Hey Dave,

saw this on the DP forums and was impressed by how easy it is to install. You definitely filled a gap in the blog sector. I needed something like this to diversify from the usual social bookmarking "tags" that are usually found in blogs.

It really expands the "word of mouth" capabilities a blog already has.

    Thank you for sharing,

    Dan

If I change any data and click Activate/Update Options button, it loads the default property again. I cannot change the text within the option box. Its buggy.

    Navjot,
    1. Thanks for the comments, the URL here was wrong actually. Fixed.

    2. Thanks for pointing it out. It makes the changes on the site, but reloads default. However, the changes are live. I'll see if I can fix it. Thanks.

Hey, thanks. I really like it, it works great.

Wow, this is great. I'm curious though is it possible to make so that the WOMM text only shows when the page is single? For example, it has it contained within each post on the index page. Not really a big deal though. Thank you!

    Drew,
Can you please give me more details as to your setup, like what version of wordpress you're running? It should be set up by default not to view on index.php. http://dotconnectorblog.com/ is running the plugin too and it's only viewable on single.php. Version 2 is in the works, with some GREAT enhancements. I'll be sure a fix is included.

Thanks for the quick reply, Dave. I'm running the latest developmental version: 2.7-beta3-9791; but I actually feel quite embarrassed now after finding the "Display on index page" option checked in the settings. Oops! False alarm.

Great, glad you got it fixed.

Ordinarily to use the code from AddThis.com you need to sign up for a free account - the benefit is that you can log back in and view "stats" from the code snippet to track how many people are bookmarking pages from your site, which specific pages and to which bookmarking services, etc.

Does your plugin do something similar? How would one go about tracking the stats for this plugin?
  • Dave Rigotti · 1 year ago
    Trisha,
The plugin doesn't currently allow tracking, but that's something I'll consider for v2. To implement tracking for AddThis and Tell-a-Friend, sign up for an account at the respective sites and in the WP-WOMM admin you can update the code.

    Dave,
New to this thing, I downlod your plugin and it seems to work fine. I do have a problem with it. It shows a box with red X tell a friend now in it.
Did you like this? If so, please bookmark it, about it, and subscribe to the blog RSS feed.
    How do I fix this??
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan,
I'm aware of the the issue - it's only on some browsers. V2 of the plugin is due end of month and that's one of the fixes. Thanks.

Until V2 is released, is there a workaround for the "missing icon" red X you get in Internet Explorer? Thanks!
  • Dave Rigotti · 11 months ago
    Virginia,
Unfortunately, there is not. I suggest removing the Tell a Friend button.

    Hi Dave,

First off; My hats off to you. great plugin.

1 issue however; If someone clicks on "Tell a Friend" (not rollover but actual click) you get a bunch of socialtwist codes...

    look forward to your assistance

    Hi there,
I'm a newbie to Wordpress and have just installed and activated your plugin but it doesn't seem to be working. I can't find it anywhere and it's not being added to new posts. Any ideas?
  • Igor · 7 months ago
many thanks, just what I was looking for, thanks

    Hi Dave,

The plugin adds it to all posts automatically under the content. But I want to place it some where else. Is there any code function, I can place on template which will display it. Thanks in advance
